What I do

A wide range of jobs, one person to call

Most of my work is the sort of thing that sits on a list for months: the jobs too small for a specialist trade and too fiddly for a Saturday morning. If it is outside what I can take on, I will tell you straight and point you at someone who can.

General repairs

General handyman work

The running list of small jobs around a home or business, cleared in one visit rather than one at a time.

  • Flat pack assembly and furniture fixing
  • Shelving, brackets and wall mounting
  • Doors, handles, hinges and locks
  • Curtain poles, blinds and lighting
Decorating

Painting services

Interior and exterior painting, prepared properly so it lasts rather than looking good for one summer.

  • Rooms, hallways and ceilings
  • Doors, skirting and woodwork
  • Sheds, fences and garden joinery
  • Exterior walls and render
Outdoor

Fencing works

Fence installation and repair, fixed quickly and safely. Island weather is hard on timber and posts.

  • Panel replacement after storm damage
  • Posts reset or concreted in
  • Gates hung and adjusted
  • Treatment and repainting
Plumbing

Plumbing repairs

Everyday plumbing repairs and installations. For anything that needs a gas registered or qualified specialist, I will say so.

  • Dripping and seized taps
  • Leaking traps and waste pipes
  • Outdoor taps and hose fittings
  • Appliance connection and installation
Exterior

Outdoor repair and maintenance

Keeping the outside of a property in order, which on the Isle of Wight means salt, wind and a lot of rain.

  • Gutter clearing and repair
  • Fascias and soffits
  • Exterior cleaning and jet washing
  • Patios, paths and general grounds
Commercial

Commercial maintenance

Handyman cover for businesses, holiday lets and landlords, scheduled around opening hours and changeover days.

  • Shops, offices and hospitality
  • Holiday let turnaround repairs
  • Landlord and letting agent work
  • Planned and reactive maintenance

Reviews from island customers

Comments left by people I have worked for across the Isle of Wight.

Lewis has been extremely helpful and capable. His workmanship is of a very high standard. In addition Lewis is flexible and accommodating. He sourced and fitted my washing machine in two days which was amazing. I would highly recommend Lewis and will be calling him again soon.
LesleyAppliance installation
An absolute star for all things that need fixing, painting, new lighting etc. I know because I have used Mr Fix It for all the above and lots of other little jobs around my home. Not afraid to suggest alternative ideas, great pricing on all jobs, professional and on time, highly recommended.

At last, someone who turns up when he says he will. From the first contact to the completion of the job Lewis has kept me informed all the way. Very satisfied with the completed job and the price charged. Excellent service. If you need a handyman I can highly recommend Lewis.

Lewis took on a daunting task for us, putting right a botched up job of a patio installation by someone who turned out to be incompetent. He was very organised, telling us exactly what he was going to do and when, and stuck to his schedule. We are delighted with the result. Thanks, Lewis.

Lewis is a top guy. He went out of his way to help one of my clients with a troublesome leak in their bathroom. Very professional, would 100% recommend to anyone needing his services.
Heavenly LettingsPlumbing, letting agent
I highly recommend Mr Fix It. Had some leaky tap and sink drain issues and he was able to think outside the box for our awkward situation. Great communication and arrived in time as promised.

I have been looking for an honest, reliable and reasonably priced handyman for quite a while. Lewis's name came up in a conversation with a work colleague recently so I contacted him and was astounded by his prompt response. He was tidy and respectful of my property and nothing has been too much trouble, always done with a smile and humour. I have already recommended him to several of my friends and colleagues. Thank you Lewis, you're a diamond.

Common questions

Any questions? I am glad you asked

What types of services do you offer?

A wide range: general repairs, painting and decorating, fencing, everyday plumbing, gutters and outdoor maintenance, and commercial work for businesses and landlords. Feel free to ask about anything not listed. If I cannot do it, I will know someone who can.

Are you insured?

Yes. I am fully insured for your protection and peace of mind, on both domestic and commercial work.

Do you offer callouts?

Yes and no. I will of course help if I am able, but I cannot promise a 24 hour service. Call or message and I will tell you honestly how soon I can get to you.

How long does a typical job take?

It depends on the work. Some jobs are an hour, some are a full day, and a list of small jobs is often best done in one visit. I give you an estimate and a timeline before starting so there are no surprises.

Do you provide free estimates?

Yes. Free, no obligation estimates on all handyman services, given in writing so the pricing is clear before any work begins.

Which parts of the Isle of Wight do you cover?

All of it. Newport, Ryde, Cowes, Sandown, Shanklin, Ventnor, Freshwater, Yarmouth, Bembridge and every village between.
